MITCH BENN is widely acknowledged as one of the best writer/performers of comic songs in the country. He was a regular writer and performer on THE NOW SHOW (BBC Radio 4) for over a decade, also working on IT'S BEEN A BAD WEEK (BBC Radio 2). Three series of his successful Radio 4 show, MITCH's CRIMES AGAINST MUSIC were broadcast from 2004-2006. He also presented THE MITCH BENN MUSIC SHOW on BBC Radio 7.
On TV, Mitch is a regular on BBC1's THE ONE SHOW as the writer and arranger of The Complaints Choir. Mitch contributes songs to Channel 4's BREMNER BIRD AND FORTUNE and has made appearances on THE LAST WORD (More4), b (Channel 4), and LIVE AT JONGLEURS.
In 2003 Mitch formed the band Mitch Benn & The Distractions with Kirsty Newton and Tash Baylis; after a successful run at the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe they took up a residency at The Bedford in Balham in October 2003. Mitch Benn & The Distractions completed a successful national UK tour in autumn 2004, to coincide with the release of their album "Too Late To Cancel”.
Mitch Benn & The Distractions' debut single, Everything Sounds Like Coldplay Now, was released on September 5th 2005, ahead of the release of the album Crimes Against Music. The video for the single was posted online, attracting 8,000 hits in its first hour.
Mitch brought a reconvened Mitch Benn and The Distractions back to the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2007, performing a nightly two-hour show - The Mitch Benn Music Club - at the prestigious Reid Hall concert venue (the "Cow Barn"). A live album, recorded on the last night of the festival, entitled "Official Bootleg Edinburgh 2007" (or "The Brown Album") was released in October 2007 to coincide with the start of another national tour, which concluded in December 2007. In 2008 Mitch toured the UK in SING LIKE AN ANGEL and again in 2009 with the WHERE NEXT? Tour.
Mitch's critically aclaimed 2015 tour DON'T BELIEVE A WORD was such a hit that it went on until September 2016. Mitch's most recent tour It's About Time has done over 20 dates across the country, and was described by the Bath Echo as 'deep, but also musical and very funny ****'.
Never standing still for long, currently developing another series commissioned by Radio 4, Mitch also toured his latest show 'I'm Sill Here' in the spring of 2018.
He writes a regular column in The New European and has written three Science Fiction Novels.
